In keeping with its mission to support the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, the GPSF has launched the highly successful Resident In Training Educational Stipend (RITES) program, now in its second year. GPSF sponsors a 6 week summer educational training program to US medical institutions for meritorious medical trainees selected by the faculty of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Education Committee of the GPSF. The program was launched in 2015 with the first two sponsored recipients Dr. Rita Larsen Reindorf, ENT fellow, and Dr. Kwame Amponsa-Achiano, Physician Epidemiologist, who both participated in the Yale Global Health Summer Research Institute. (YPGHSRI) in July – August 2015.
This year GPSF is pleased to welcome Dr. Joyceline Assimeng Dame (faculty of pediatrics) and Dr. Samuel K. Asomani (faculty of Internal Medicine) who will also be participating in the Yale Summer Program (YPGHSRI).
The GPSF is aiming to sponsor at least 3 recipients for 2017 and to further expand the program in the coming years. The GPSF is looking for US medical institutions that will serve as training sites for attachments for year 2017 and beyond. If your medical institution can serve as a host site for future participants, please forward pertinent information to ghanaphysiciansusa@gmail.com.
Donations towards this worthy cause are welcome.
The program has been a tremendous success to me. My main objectives to improve my research career has been met and I am grateful. I have been exposed to the great art of scientific writing and communication as well as what constitutes good research practice. Concerning the clinical work, I got to observe some best practices and whatever difference I believe we can make back home, I need to start NOW.

I have learnt the need to spend time to let my patients know much about their illnesses and also respect their wishes while addressing their concerns. The need for team work and respect for team members have been reinforced in me. I have been better equipped with knowledge and skill in scientific research and writing.
